The residential suburb of Durbanville forms part of what is collectively known as the Northern Suburbs and lies minutes from the main highways taking you into Cape Town City. The history of Durbanville dates back to the early 19th century when it was founded mainly due to a water spring that supplied water to travellers between Cape Town and the interior. Later, in 1825, local farmers requested permission from the governor of the Cape Colony, Lord Charles Somerset, to build their own church in the small village.

In 1836, the name of the village was changed from Pampoenkraal to D’urban and later to Durbanville.

Between 1870 and 1901, Durbanville became the Magisterial District of Bellville and was established as a municipality. Over time the village grew rapidly and was once home to one of South Africa’s largest wagon industries. Since then Durbanville has seen tremendous growth and over the last 30 years the suburb has developed at a fast pace. Despite these developments, Durbanville has managed to retain the rural atmosphere and unique character that make the area so sought after.

Durbanville has no shortage of good schools, medical facilities and modern day amenities. The impressive Tygervalley centre is located within easy reach of properties in Durbanville as well as the scenic Durbanville Wine Route. Although Cape Town’s many restaurants, nightlife, and entertainment are a mere 25km away, Durbanville boast plenty of 21st century luxuries including The Barnyard Theatre and the modern Durbanville Golf Club.
